2026 Season Preview
The Lady Royals are moving to 4A after back-to-back 3A State Championships. They return four players from their starting rotation and add depth with young talent. The 2025 season started with adversity when starting setter Addie Haberthy went down with season-ending knee injury just prior to the season. The team finished with a 33-5 record, and accumulated a Circle City Conference Championship, Marion County Championship and Class 3A State Championship.
Returning for the Royals is four-year varsity starter, middle blocker, senior Ella Stone. She finished her 2025 campaign as the leading blocker with a total of 109. She also had 145 kills and will be expected to take on a significant offensive role this season. Junior Rosanna Spearing earned a 6-rotation spot last season and led the team in total receptions and added 262 kills to the offense. Sophomore Norah Bell returns as DS/L after filling in for injured Haberthy at the setting position. She earned Max Preps All-American Freshman team last season and had 1214 assists and 288 digs on the season. Junior Ava Stone returns at middle blocker, after initially seeing limited action but earning a starting role in the post season.
Junior transfer Emilie Zapp will be expected to make a significant impact this season at the setting position. In addition, the backcourt adds junior Nora Smith at the DS/L position. Sophomores Leah Christie and Aubree Lauck add depth at the outside hitter position. Sophomore Stella Kessenich will bring versatility at MB and Opposite positions. Freshman Sarah Clarkston rounds out the roster as OH/OPP hitter.
This group looks to replace the loss of eight seniors, all of which have gone on to play volleyball in college. Notably, Reagan Turk (DS/L), the IHSAA Mental Attitude Winner and Marion County Athlete of the Year, moves on to play at West Virginia University. Lydia Stahley (OH) Ms. Volleyball Finalist and Marion County Athlete of the Year, moves on to play at Missouri. Lily Jones (OPP) Central Michigan University, Addie Haberthy (S) Xavier University, Grace Troxell (OH) University of Louisiana Monroe, Kaelin Quinlin (DS/L) Hanover College, Addie Phillips (DS/L) Marian University and Faith Schoettle (DS/L) IU Columbus.
