2025-26 Season Review
The gymnastics team began the season with returning state qualifier, junior Emiko Vecchio, leading the way. Sophomore Grace Toth and freshman Katie Vokes were newcomers to the program, but they brought excitement from the start. The primary goal all season was for the entire team to make it to state. The Royals once again placed 3rd at sectionals, advancing them to regionals, where they fell in advancing as a team, but three gymnasts advanced to state on various individual events. This was the most state qualifiers in 13 seasons!
The lone senior, Claire May, had her first state appearance on bars, and she had a phenomenal season. Vokes advanced in both beam and floor, and sophomore Elaina Shutta advanced in her strongest event, beam. There is a reason she was called “the beam queen”! Coach Gridley shared, “My proudest moment of the season was when an athlete gave up her spot on floor at the last-minute due to illness, which ultimately led to Katie advancing to state on floor. The team mentality of this program is something really special.” The Royals look forward to the off-season and returning next season more motivated than ever!
End-of-season Roncalli awards went to the following Royals:
MVP: Claire May
Mental Attitude Award: Katie Vokes
Leadership Award: Junior Lucy Perry
Sportsmanship Award: Grace Toth
