2024 Season Review

The team knew going into this season they would be good, unfortunately, they were crippled by injuries this year. At one point, four out of the seven returning contributors on offense were injured, with three enduring season-ending injuries before the season even started. Despite that, the Royals had one of the most successful seasons in Roncalli’s history. Senior Wil Kaul shattered all previously held records. He now holds the record for career goals with 103, career assists with 62, career points with 165 and single season points with 75. He was named MVP of the season. Junior Rufus Parrot also broke 100 career points this year. Juniors Nate Love and Tommy Och were also recognized with end-of-season awards, with Love earning the Mental Attitude Award and Och receiving the Leadership Award. Coach AJ Ablog shared, “The Class of 2025 really took the initiative to lead in a very healthy way this season. They own the culture of the team, and they take pride in being a lacrosse team. The leadership from within is amazing.”

Despite some early-season losses, the Royals gained a ton of confidence and became ranked for the first time in school history. The team fell just short of making the tournament this year, but injuries played a big part in that. However, it gave opportunities to younger players to gain experience and get a lot of varsity playing time. Coach Ablog ads, “At the end of the day, I look at this season as a  huge success. Mentally, we go into our conference games knowing we are the underdogs, but some dominant wins against both Heritage Christian and Chatard gave our boys the confidence to play next year. That mental change will help change the direction of the program moving forward.”
