The Royal wrestlers captured the schools first Dual State Title! With a bye first round they took out an undefeated New Haven team in the quarter finals. In the semi-finals, Columbus East would come out strong with a 14-0 lead, but the Royals put together 5 straight pins to make the score 30-14. Alex Plahitko sealed the match with a fall at 144 Ibs. In the finals, Hobart would do much the same winning the first 4 matches before Roncalli would respond with 6 straight wins of their own. Will May would ice the match at 150 lbs with a fall.

The Royals were down 6 coming into the last match but Peyton Schoettle with a pin in the second period to allow the Royals to win on second criteria (most falls).

The Royal wrestlers completed their undefeated regular season by taking down Cathedral. This is the first undefeated season in Roncalli wrestling history. The match started at 285 and the Royals took an early lead, winning 4 of the first 5 matches. Final score was 45-19 to finish the season 21-0.

Roncalli came up just short of a Semi-State team title. The Royal wrestlers started the semi-state tournament firing going 8 for 9 in the first round. Carter Sanford fell to the semi state champ in the first round. Gavyn Kemp, Jack Richardson, and James Dozier saw their season come to an end with tough losses in the quarter finals.
Roncalli is sending 5 wrestlers to Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Friday and Saturday, for the state finals. Peyton Schoettle and Blake Getz repeat as Semi-State Champs. Alex Plahitko and MJ Morton finished third, and Gray Wiley placed fourth.
State finals tickets will go on sale to the public on Tuesday 2/18.

Gainbridge Fieldhouse
In the first round on Friday, the Royals went 3 for 5 sending 3 to the podium. Alex Plahitko and Gray Wiley lost their opening match. Peyton Schoettle, Blake Getz and MJ Morton all won scoring bonus points in the first round. Blake and MJ lost their quarter final match. Peyton won his quarter final match with a tech fall. In the semis, Schoettle down 4 late in the 3rd scored a take down and back points with 20 seconds left to earn his spot in the championship match for the second time.
In the placement round, Getz earned a second period fall against the number 4 ranked wrestler to place 5th. Morton lost a tough overtime match to place 8th. Schoettle was down early to the nationally ranked wrestler from Brownsburg, and came within 1 in the third period. Peyton came up just short and is the State Runner-Up.
The team finished in 8th place.
