Girls Golf

2024 Season Review

The girls golf team had a very successful season, highlighted by freshman Ava Wenzel winning the Marion County Tournament and being awarded the team MVP.  Wenzel was the first freshman to win this tournament for the Royals. Wenzel had this to share about her first season as a Royal golfer, “I am so proud of myself and the team for all of the accomplishments that we achieved this season. I am so excited for next year to see how the team develops and how I do in my sophomore season.” Coach Waugh said, “Competing as a freshman on varsity is never easy, but Ava showed incredible determination. She inspired our entire team, and her future in girls golf is bright.”

Junior Kaelyn Taylor was given the Sportsmanship Award. Senior Tabitha Yoho was given the Mental Attitude Award this year, while senior captain Sami Fuller earned the Leadership Award. Reflecting on her senior season, Fuller shared, “ I have loved every golf season. I looked forward to each match and practice, made friends that I normally wouldn’t have and learned a lot about myself. Golf has helped me grow as a person; it hasn’t just helped me stay active. Golf isn’t the most popular sport, but it was definitely one of the highlights of my time at Roncalli. Being team captain has been an honor. It helped me in sorting out my future. I loved that everyone trusted me, and the leadership role gave me a new sense of maturity. My favorite part about being team captain was probably being assigned to drive the girls to golf matches. We would all get in my car and sing to music. We even made a playlist in memory of it. One more moment that was very special to me was during senior night; all the girls wore their craziest socks, since throughout the years, I have worn novelty socks as a way to make the stress of competition more relaxed.”
