2024 Season Review
The boys track and field season was one filled with records and championships. Senior thrower Seth Brosseau and junior distance runner Sam Vaught headlined the team’s successes. Brosseau’s long list of accomplishments this season include: Indoor State Champion in shot put, school record in the shot put and discus, county, sectional and regional championships in both throws and an All-State finish in the shot put outdoors. Additionally, Brosseu holds the 19th best throw of the shot put in the history of Indiana. Vaught nearly equaled Brosseu’s success; winning the sectional and regional 1600M championship and setting a new school record along the way. Qualifying three events for the IHSAA State Championships continued the team’s incredible streak of 22 consecutive seasons with state qualifiers.
2024 saw two additional school records fall, bringing the total of school records broken to five. The distance medley relay team of senior Ezra Littell, sophomore Owen Lewis, freshman Will Lewis and Vaught, as well as the 4 X 200m relay of sophomore Liam Kidwell, sophomore Alex Beard, senior Ben Brandenburg and senior Eli Miller both set new standards.
All totaled, the team had 15 performances make it onto the school’s All-Time Top Ten Performance list: Brosseau #1 in shot and disc, Vaught #1 in 1600M, #2 in 800M, #3 in 3200M, Miller #2 in 200M, Littell #3 in 800M and #9 in 1600M, sophomore Anthony Litz #4 in 300IH, senior Brady Rossman #6 in pole vault, senior Dom Morelli #7 in 300IH, Will Lewis #8 in 1600M, sophomore Cole Huff #10 in 200M, the 4 X 400 relay #5 (Litz, Owen Lewis, Littell and Vaught) and the 4 X 800 #4 (Littell, Litz, Owen Lewis and freshman Jim Buchmeier).
Littell was honored as an Indiana All-Star, and he earned Academic All-State honors. Miller, junior Jacob Johnson and senior Buddy Branson were also named Academic All-State. Seniors Liam Huff, Brandenburg and Morelli earned Honorable Mention.
Senior Jack Davis was named the Most Improved Athlete, Owen Lewis won the Mental Attitude award, Eli Miller took home the Rookie of the Year, while Seth Brosseau was named Most Valuable Athlete. Will Lewis was named Most Valuable Freshman, Anthony Litz Most Valuable Sophomore, Sam Vaught Most Valuable Junior and Ezra Littell Most Valuable Senior. Ben Brandenburg won the leadership medal and Ezra Littell the sportsmanship medal. Littell, Brandenburg, Morelli and Rossman each earned four-year varsity letters.
