Girls Cross Country
2024 Season Review
The girls cross country team had another great season with one of the best teams in school history! During the regular season, the Royal ladies won titles at the Pike Hokum Karem and Southport dual meet and placed second at the All-Catholic Meet. The girls continued to work hard throughout the season culminating in winning a sectional title for the first time in school history! The girls now hold 9 out 10 of the fastest team averages in school history.
Junior Charlie Fletter broke the school record this season with a time of 18:41! The previous record was held by Elissa Mason R’08 with a time of 18:50. Sophomore Tessa Mize ran the fastest time by a sophomore in program history and currently ranks #3 on the all-time top 20. Junior Ava Shirley ran the second fastest time by a junior and currently ranks #5 on the all-time top 20. Junior Madelyn Kitchens ranks #8 on the all-time top 20. Senior Rachel Flick ends her cross country career at Roncalli ranked #13. Junior Marygrace Rykowski broke into the top 20 list this year and is ranked #15.
Tessa Mize earned All-Circle City Conference honors. Charlie Fletter, Tessa Mize and Ava Shirley earned All-County honors. Shirley, Mize, Fletter and Marygrace Rykowski all earned All-Sectional Honors, and Mize was a state qualifier!
Madelyn Kitchens was given the Leadership Award this year, while junior Claire Meinerding earned the team’s Mental Attitude Award. Tessa Mize and Charlie Fletter were named the team’s MVPs for the season. Sophomore Clara Kazmierzak was given the Sportsmanship Award.
Senior Ellie Himes and juniors Ava Shirley, Marygrace Rykowski and Claire Meinerding were named Academic All-State by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (IATCCC).
