2025-26 Season Preview
Roncalli had one of the most successful seasons in school history last year when the Royals won the 3A team championship and had an undefeated dual record. The Royal wrestling team ended the year placing 8th in the individual state competition, with five state qualifiers. MJ Morton placed 8th, and Blake Getz placed 5th. Peyton Schoettle reached the finals again, falling just short of another championship. All three place-winners return for their senior campaign.
The Royals return a strong squad with a lot of varsity experience after graduating five seniors in 2025. Seniors Danny Kappes, Andrew McHugh, Jackson McCurdy, Brody Heidelberger and Zane Baker will join MJ, Blake and Peyton with varsity experience. Semi-State qualifiers, Carter Sanford, Jack Richardson, Gavyn Kemp and state-qualifier, junior Caleb Morrow (transfer from Lutheran High School), will join this experienced crew.
The 2025-26 season begins with an away dual against Bloomington South, and the team will be home against Indian Creek and Lawrence North before winter break. The Royals will head to Westfield after winning the Shamrock duals in 2023 and 2024. The Royal wrestlers will try for a second straight county title before heading to the always difficult Mater Dei Holiday Classic. The Roncalli squad will again have the chance to compete for another 3A Team State title on January 10, 2026 and extend the conference championship streak at Bishop Chatard. Cathedral and Warren Central will host the Royals in January.
This season, the JV team will get a chance to compete at the Center Grove Classic along side the varsity. The JV team will also once again travel to the Mater Dei Classic.
