Girls Wrestling

2025-25 Season Review

This season was an important step forward for the Roncalli girls wrestling program. The program had solid growth with five new wrestlers joining the program. Seniors Claire May and Olivia Lemus brought a lot of experience, and their work ethic, toughness and willingness to help the younger wrestlers learn the sport made a huge difference for the team. When a program is being built, leadership from the experienced veterans adds up.

These two seniors accomplished quite a lot during their final season as Royal wrestlers. May was a sectional champion and placed 5th at state. She also earned All-County, All-State and Academic All-State honors. Lemus was also a sectional champion, and she qualified for state. She joined May in being recognized as All-County and Academic All-State.

The program’s five new wrestlers included freshman Piper Jackson, sophomores Alayna Garnica, Kiera Conlin and Abby McNeil and junior Annabelle Rose. Girls stepping into the sport of wrestling has to be one of the toughest things mentally and physically they could do. Wrestling isn’t easy, especially when you’re new to it, but this group continued to show up and wrestle hard every week. They gained valuable mat time and experience that will pay off moving forward.

Coach Shawn Slaymon said, “I’m proud of the way this team competed and supported each other all year. Starting the season with five girls knowing nothing about wrestling, to growing into a team and always being there for each is what made this season fun.”

End-of-season Roncalli awards went to the following Royals:

MVP & Leadership Award: Claire May

Mental Attitude Award: Annabelle Rose

Sportsmanship Award: Olivia Lemus
